I will be traveling to Grand Rapids this week from Tuesday
to Friday for the meeting of the Board of Christian Reformed Home Missions. I’ll
have my cell phone with me and access to e-mail so I’ll be in contact in those
ways. We won’t have our Wednesday night Men’s group at church.
We will have our 9:30 Adult Sunday School class as normal
next Sunday Sept 28 and we’ll hopefully finish up the message of the Spirit to
the church at Ephesus.
At 11:00 Eric Dirksen, a resident with plans to plant a
church in Davis will be preaching for us. It will be a good time to meet him. pvk

At our 9:30 Sunday School class on Revelation we asked the question
of how a loving God could threaten his church in Ephesus with removing their
lampstand if they didn’t come back to the way they loved God at first. Why
would God say such a think? Audio

At 11:00 we ongoing holocaust of the age of decay and how we
don’t appreciate the vastness of this devastation because it unfolds in slow
motion. We also saw how God has been working throughout the history of his
people to not only undo this age of decay but also bring us into the fullness
of this renewal through Jesus. We saw how the events on the mountain of
transfiguration connected the exodus, Sinai, Isaiah’s vision and the hope that
gives all of us who repeatedly suffer loss in this age. Audio

At 9:30 the Adult Sunday School class will continue in our
in-depth study of the book of Revelation. Last week we started with the letters
to the seven churches and we’re looking at what the Spirit says to the church
in Ephesus. This church drew praise but also was criticized for having lost
their “first love”.
At 11:00 we continue hearing Jesus in Luke declare his
mission to end the age of decay in this world. This week when Jesus is praying
with Peter, James and John on a mountain a startling thing happens and it will
leave those who witness it speechless for a long time.

At 11:00 we examined Peter’s profession that Jesus is the
Messiah of God and why Jesus revealed to them that this Messiah will not be
what they expect, but instead will suffer, die and be raised. Audio

At the 9:30 Adult Sunday School class we’ll be looking at
the first church addressed in the book: Ephesus. Of this church Jesus says “you
have lost your first love”. Ouch.
At 11:00 Jesus begins to reveal himself and his mission in a
deeper way to his disciples but telling them a shocking piece of his plan that
just won’t seem right to them. We will wrestle with the question: “why is faith
so difficult?”
At 6:00pm we’ll have our monthly “prayer for the city”
gathering at the church. All are welcome.

At 9:30 we finished off Revelation 1 (mostly). Audio mp3,

At 11:00 we saw how Jesus spread a table of plenty before
the multitudes fulfilling Isaiah and foretelling a greater banquet yet to come.

At 9:30 we’ll continue our study of the book of Revelation. Jesus in Revelation 1 appears to his friend John, but Jesus does not appear has he did when John first met him. Jesus looks very much like a figure that shows up in both Daniel 7 and Daniel 10. Is this the same man? Why would Jesus come first in humility, to be mocked, tortured and killed, while all the people wanted him to be a powerful, supernatural figure to smite the Romans, and THEN show up when His church is being persecuted as a powerful figure complete with two edged sword?
At 11:00 Jesus will set a table before an assembled host in the desert. He will feed them, and us, to satisfaction at his table.

Unfortunately we didn’t get a good recording of the 11:00 sermon again this week. Roger should be able to fix this and we should get back on track next week.
